DESLOGE — A traffic stop for speeding resulted in a drug arrest for the Desloge Police Department on April 28. The stop occurred at 8 p.m. near the intersection of Chestnut and Vandervoot Street. Desloge Police Chief James Bullock said Officer Brad Judge observed the vehicle speeding as it crossed the center line on two different occasions.
“As Officer Judge was talking with the driver he smelled an alcoholic beverage and the moderate odor of marijuana,” Bullock said. “The driver’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and his motor functions appeared to be lacking. The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle. He asked the subject if he had been drinking or smoking marijuana. The subject said he had consumed two beers, but he had not smoked any marijuana.”
The officer placed the driver under arrest for careless and imprudent driving. While searching the vehicle, Bullock said a bag containing a green leafy substance was found.
“In addition to the green leafy substance, there was also a piece of drug paraphernalia in the bag,” Bullock said. “There was also a passenger in the vehicle who was placed under arrest on an outstanding warrant.”
The driver is described as a 23-year-old Bonne Terre man. He was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, careless and imprudent driving and for not wearing a seatbelt.
The passenger is described as a 22-year-old Desloge man. He was arrested on the outstanding warrant and is not currently facing any new charges.
