DESLOGE — The Desloge Police Department has arrested two people this week on charges related to illegal drug use.
The first, a 37-year-old Farmington man, was arrested April 1 for attempting to get high on carburetor cleaner, according to police. Desloge Police Chief James Bullock said the arrest occurred at 8 p.m. at AutoZone.
“Patrolman Cord Blumenstock was called to Rhodes 101 in reference to a suspicious male subject,” Bullock said. “Upon arrival he found two cans of carburetor cleaner, one of which was empty. He also found an unopened package of cookies. The suspicious man was no longer at the location though. He noticed that the cans of carburetor cleaner were AutoZone brand so he went next door to the auto parts store.”
Bullock said Blumenstock found the man at AutoZone.
“When he approached him, Patrolman Blumenstock smelled the odor of carburetor cleaner on the man’s breath,” Bullock said. “The officer detained the man and found two more bottles of carburetor cleaner on him. One was in his pocket and the other was concealed in the waistband of his pants.”
Bullock said the man was arrested for public intoxication, two counts of misdemeanor shoplifting and for inhalation of solvent fumes.
The second arrest, a 34-year-old Park Hills man who had an existing warrant for his arrest out of Jefferson County is in more hot water. The arrested subject has been identified as Jason Kobylarczyk.
“Patrolman Dan Russell observed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit and pulled it over,” Bullock said. “When the officer approached the driver and advised him of why he pulled him over, he smelled the odor of alcohol. The officers performed a field sobriety test on the driver which the subject passed with slight difficulty. Patrolman Russell asked the subject if he had been smoking marijuana. The man said yes, he had at about 9:30 p.m. that night.”
Bullock said while Russell was questioning the man, Patrolman Adam Houston ran the man’s license and found an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
“The man was placed under arrest,” Bullock said. “A search of the vehicle revealed four partially smoked marijuana cigarettes and other paraphernalia in plain view.”
Bullock said the man could face new charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, careless and imprudent driving, exceeding the posted speed limit and defective equipment.
