| Police issue citations for marijuana possession |
|
DESLOGE — The Desloge Police Department had a busy morning Sunday. Before 3 a.m., police had already issued citations to six individuals for possession of marijuana.
The first incident occurred at 2 a.m. at the intersection of N. Desloge Drive and State Street. Officer Cord Bloomenstock observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner so he pulled it over. Chief James Bullock said there were three people inside the vehicle.
“Officer Bloomenstock asked if there were any illegal items in the vehicle,” Bullock said. “When he checked the driver of the vehicle, he found a hard rectangular box in his left pocket. The driver told the officer he could look in the box. A green leafy substance that smelled like marijuana was in it.”
Bloomenstock then interviewed a female passenger and asked for permission to search her purse. Bullock said permission was granted and a plastic bag with a substance that smelled like marijuana was found.
The officer issued summons to the individuals and went to assist an officer with a felony drug case.
Officer Thomas Ward had a vehicle stopped along Highway 67. Bullock said the vehicle had been crossing the centerline

| Police make arrests related to newspaper rack thefts |
|
DESLOGE — Desloge police arrested three suspects Friday that are believed to have broken into up to 75 newspaper rack machines in Farmington, Fredericktown, Perryville and Ste. Genevieve County. Police Chief James Bullock said Officer Brad Judge pulled the vehicle over with the suspects at 1:31 a.m. at the intersection of N. Desloge Drive and Willow Street.
Bullock said the vehicle had made a turn without using a turn signal and had also swerved several times.
“When Officer Judge approached the vehicle, the driver acted very nervous and started apologizing,” the chief said. “The driver said he had not been paying attention while he was driving and that was why the driving was erratic. While speaking to the driver, Officer Judge recognized him as a person of interest in an ongoing investigation in Fredericktown.”
Bullock said Judge also smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer then asked the three people to get out of the vehicle.

They both said no. The passenger then pulled a Budweiser bottle out from under his seat. Officer Russell asked who had been drinking it. The passenger said he had.”
Bullock said Russell asked both men for identification and proof of insurance from the driver. He said the driver failed to produce proof of insurance.
“Both of the men were then asked to get out of the vehicle,” Bullock said. “The passenger was placed under arrest for having an open container.”
The passenger is described as a 20-year-old Bonne Terre man.
